Speech Delivered by Dean Zhou Yong at the 2022 Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony

同学们、老师们：

大家下午好！

Dear students and teachers,

Good afternoon!

在新冠疫情仍然很严重的时刻，我们迎来了今天这场不同以往的毕业典礼。今天，你们成功完成学业，即将开始新的人生旅程，在这个难忘的美好日子里，首先，请允许我代表国际教育学院全体教师员工向所有毕业生表示最热烈的祝贺。我想对那些为学生的健康成长付出努力和汗水的老师们表示诚挚的感谢。

We are gathering here today to hold this unusual graduation ceremony, at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is still serious. Today, you have successfully completed your studies and are about to embark on a new journey of life. On this unforgettable beautiful day, first of all, on behalf of all the teachers and staff of the School of International Education, please allow me to extend my warmest congratulations to all the graduates. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those teachers who have made great efforts and sacrificed so much for the healthy growth of the students.

在新乡学院，你们一起度过了四年激情飞扬的青春岁月，曾有过很多快乐，也有过很多困惑。但让我感动和自豪的是，在这里，你们不仅丰富了知识、提升了能力、增强了体质，而且经历了思维的历练和思想的交融，塑造了良好的品质和完善的人格，具备了独立思考和解决问题的能力，为走向社会成为合格公民打牢了基础。2022届国际教育学院学生、选派交换生毕业生中有30余名同学被英国爱丁堡大学、马萨诸塞阿默斯特分校、爱尔兰都柏林大学、都柏林圣三一大学、郑州大学、海南大学等国（境）内外大学研究生录取。在国外大学继续学习的学生要发挥自身独特优势，努力做中外沟通的桥梁和媒介，在坚定文化自信、讲好中国故事上争做表率。

In Xinxiang University, you have spent four years of passionate youth together. You have experienced a lot of happiness as well as confusion. But what I’m moved and proud of is that here, you have not only enriched your knowledge, improved your abilities and strengthened your physique, but also cultivated your thinking ability and experienced the collision of ideas; You have not only fostered independent thinking ability and acquired problem solving skills, but also shaped good quality and perfect personality. You have possessed the ability to think independently and solve problems on your own, laying a solid foundation for becoming qualified citizen. Among all the 2022 graduates of School of International Education and the exchange students, more than 30 have been admitted by the University of Edinburgh, Amherst, Massachusetts, Dublin University, Trinity University of Dublin, Zhengzhou University, Hainan University and other domestic and foreign universities as postgraduates. Students who continue their studies in foreign universities should give full play to their unique advantages, strive to be a bridge and medium of communication between China and other countries, and strive to be a good example in strengthening cultural confidence and telling Chinese stories well.

同学们，你们是国际教育学院的第一届本科毕业生，你们是国际教育学院发展的见证者，是推进学校发展事业的参与者，你们与国际教育学院一同走过的这几年，正是学院事业快速发展，蒸蒸日上的时期。立德树人、博文约礼，在校期间，你们修身明德、砥砺品学、不负光阴、执着奋进，你们让新乡学院校园朝气蓬勃，你们践行了新乡学院“开放、包容、求实、创新”的校训和“艰苦奋斗、自强不息”的精神。你们为国际教育教育学院学弟学妹树立了榜样。

Dear students, you are the first graduates of the School of International Education, you are the witnesses of the development of the School, and you are the participants in promoting the development of the university. The years you have gone through together with the School of International Education are the period of rapid development of the school. You have cultivated your moral integrity, honed your character and learning, lived up to the time and made persistent progress. You have made the campus of Xinxiang University vigorous. You have practiced the school motto of “Openness, inclusiveness, pragmatism and innovation” and the spirit of “Hard work and unremitting self-improvement” of Xinxiang University. You have set an example for the younger students of the School of International Education.

同学们，你们即将奔赴新的征程，进入新的发展阶段。作为师长，我想给大家提几点希望：

希望同学们坚守理想，志存高远。崇高的理想信念是人生的精神支柱，要想有所作为，必须立志于青年之时，追求于一生之中。让听党话，跟党走的信念成为自觉追求。

I hope you will stick to your ideals and aim high. Lofty ideals and beliefs are the spiritual pillars of life. If you want to make a difference, you must aspire to the youth and pursue it in your life. Let the belief of listening to and following the Party become a conscious pursuit.

愿你们享受职业的乐趣，欣赏自己的努力给社会带来更大的价值。

May you enjoy your career and appreciate your efforts to bring greater value to society.

愿你们温良恭俭、关怀包容，不要自以为是、目中无人。

May you be patient, and gentle, and tolerant, without becoming smug, self-conceited and arrogant.

愿你们明白人生不是一帆风顺，要做好应对山重水复的准备，但也要坚信会有柳暗花明的一天。

May you know enough bad weather that you never take sunshine for granted, and enough good weather like today that your faith in the coming of spring is never shaken.
